var1=MPRC GLOSSARY OF TERMS This glossary of terms has been developed to aid in the understanding of common repair terms referred to in the repair information supplied with returned repairs.

AEM (Auxiliary Energy Management)-This is an extra power supply chip used on some newer Nokia phones AF Amp - Amplifies the audio within a Nokia handset. BER - Beyond Economic Repair - The unit has been damaged to such an extent that it would cost more then the worth of the unit to repair. There are two types of BER Liquid and Physical Damage. BETTY/VILMA - Perform the same function as RETU/TAVHO in Nokia units BTFM - A combination of Bluetooth and FM radio components in to one in Nokia units. BLUETOOTH - (Bluetooth interface IC) - This is the chip that controls the bluetooth functionality of the phone Coaxial Connector - This connects the upper and lower flip sections of a Samsung handset COMBO FLASH - This is the user information memory in Nokia units. Crystal/Xtal/VCXO/CCTCXO - This is a component used in the transmitting and receiving of a signal and for controlling the internal clock of the phone DIAMONDHEAD - This is a charging and overvoltage protection chip in Motorola units DIODE BRIDGE FILTER - This is the keypad control chip in Sony Ericsson units DIPLEXER - This is a chip used to switch the handset between transmit and receive modes EMC - Energy Management Calibration - This is the re-calibration of all the energy circuits of the handset - these circuits control features such as battery life and the charging cycle. Exchanged Logic Board - The main PCB of the handset has been replaced, on some manufacturers this may mean a change of IMEI. FLASH - This is a chip used to store the software and user data FEM - A combination of PA and Diplexer in to one components in Nokia units FLEX - This is the connection between the upper and lower section of a Motorola handset FLEXING - This term means the installation of network or region specific software in Motorola units. GCAP2 / CGAP3 / PCAP - This is the chip controlling audio input/output, power supply and charging in Motorola units. GSM EDGE TRANSCEIVER (RF CHIP) - This chip controls the signal TX/RX (transmission/receipt) on Motorola GSM handsets HAGAR / HELGA / MJOLNER - transceiver (transmitter/receiver) chip - These are the integrated chips used for signal control in Nokia units. HINKU - This chip controls the receiver section of Nokia phone. IC - Integrated chip IMEI - International Mobile Equipment Identity - Is a unique number to every mobile handset, and is used by the networks to identify your phone. It also allows networks to bar handsets from their network. This number is usually found on the label under the battery or by entering *#06# on the handset. INGELA - RF control(Radio Frequency) - This is the chip used in signal control in Sony Ericsson units Key Flex - Connects the keypad to the PCB of the handset. KNATTE - This is the chip used for charging and accessory control in Sony Ericsson units MELODY IC -This is an integrated chip that creates the ringtone in Samsung units MMC - MultiMedia Card – This is a small flash memory device for the storage of user’s data such as photos and music. NEPTUNE - This is the central controller/processor in the phone and is also used for signal and User Interface Control in Motorola units OMAP/Goldeneye/HELEN - This IC is the application processor. It is used to execute all user related applications. Its key functions include camera, display, bluetooth, mmc, usb and keyboard interfaces in Nokia units. PA (Power Amplifier) - This is the chip that the handset uses to transmit a signal PATRIOT / WHITECAP - This is the central controller/processor of the handset. It is also used for signal and User Interface Control in Motorola units. PBA/PCB - Printed Board Assembly/Printed Circuit Board - This is the main part of the handset that contains all the chips necessary to function. It also contains the IMEI of the phone. PHASING - Term used for tuning and calibrating the handset and helping to improve signal and battery life in Motorola units PIHI/AHNE - Transceiver (transmitter/receiver) chip. These are integrated chips used in signal control in a Nokia handset PCB - Printed Circuit Board - This board is the main part of the handset that contains all the chips necessary to function. It also contains the IMEI of the phone. POWER IC - This is an integrated chip used for power supply and charging in Samsung units POWER SUPPLY DIODE - This is the power surge protection chip in Samsung units RATTLER - This chip controls signal TX/RX (transmission/receipt) on Motorola 3G handsets RAP3G/RAPGSM - The successor to the TIKU. This is the central controller/processor in the handset in Nokia units RETU/TAVHO - The successor to the UEM. These chips control power supply, charging, audio input/output and signal in Nokia units SEAWEED - This chip controls power supply and audio input/output in Motorola units Software Upgraded - The latest approved manufacturer software has been installed on the handset SRAM - This is the Memory of the handset that is used like the RAM on a PC Tested to Spec - The handset has been tested and is operating to the manufacturer requirements Tuned - The TX/RX circuits of the handset have been re-calibrated to ensure that they are within manufacture approved values. This is mainly done in relation to signal problems. TJATTE - This is the audio chip in Sony Ericsson units UEM (Universal Energy Management) -This is a universal chip that controls power supply, charging, audio input/output and signal in Nokia units UI MODULE - (User interface module) - This is a part containing handset functions including LCD (Display unit) and Keypad. UPP / TIKU - (Universal Phone Processor) - This is the central controller/processor in Nokia handsets VCO - (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) - This chip is used in converting signals up to radio frequency when transmitting or down from radio frequency while receiving VCXO / VCTCXO - This is a chip used in the transmitting and receiving of a signal and for controlling the internal clock of the phone VINKU - This chip controls the transmitter section of a Nokia phone. VICTORIA/VINCENNE - This is the chip used in power supply in Sony Ericsson handsets VREG - This component converts DC voltages within a Nokia phone.
